Club Rides are Back!

We are pleased to announce that our Club Rides will resume from Tuesday 30th March 2021.

As members of a Club participating on an organised Club Event we will have the privilege of being able to ride in groups of more than 6!

Safety, and group size are always linked, so we will be fielding ride groups of up to 8 to better facilitate ’through and off’ riding if preferred. However, whilst riders can form groups of up to 8 whilst out on the ride, they must observe social distancing and form up in smaller groups (up to 6) before commencing a ride. Equally you must split into groups up to 6 if you stop during the ride and after the ride.

From the 29th March, 2021, people can only ride in groups of more than 6 as part of an organised club ride. Therefore, only members of the Club or new riders participating in the Saturday Introduction Ride can take part.

Join us!

If you are interested in joining us, we meet for our Saturday club ride in the car park of All Hallows Church, Erncroft Way TW1 IDA at 9am. It’s the big stone church on the A316 near the Rugby Ground roundabout.  There is always a new rider Introduction group which is led by two experienced riders, who will introduce you to/help you develop group riding skills.

The Saturday club run is 40 miles (65km), has a couple of short, manageable climbs, and a coffee stop at Fairoaks Airport Café after 25 miles. Please be sure you are equipped with at least one spare tube and a means of inflating it, a good supply of drink and some food.

It is important for you to be riding a bike with drop handlebars (rather than wider straight ones) as when you are on a group ride, alongside others, wider handlebars introduce the risk of handlebars coming in contact and causing a crash.

You will also need to be happy to provide your contact details for Track and Trace purposes and you need to have your own mask and have funds available to get home if you have a mechanical that can’t be fixed on the road.

We will give you a briefing on our riding style and our expectations under Covid at the start.

Am I fit enough?

The Saturday club run is a no-drop ride with groups of varying speeds, so something for everyone. New riders are required to ride with the Introduction group initially. You must be able to ride a distance of 40 miles but if you can ride three laps of Richmond Park with an average of 15mph then you should be fine. You will ride in a group with experienced ride leaders and you will find it much easier than riding solo because you are sheltered in the slipstream of the other riders for much of the time. This needs concentration but it is great fun!

Our ambition is to make you a faster, more efficient and safer rider and to offer opportunities and support to enable our members to participate in cycle sport.

We look forward to meeting you on a Saturday very soon! If you have any questions, please use the form on the Contact Us page.
