Join Us!
If you’re interested in joining us, we’d love to see you!
Sometimes prospective members come along to the clubroom on a Tuesday (any time between 7 and 9pm) to have a chat to the members on clubroom duty and get a feel for what we do. It’s not essential, but some people find it to be a good first step. You’ll find the Tuesday clubroom as of 1st August 2023 at The Patch, 42 York St, Twickenham TW1 3BW.
Saturday Intro Rides
We ask that all new riders join us on one of our Saturday Intro Rides. The Saturday ride meets at 09.00, is 40 miles long with a coffee stop at 22 miles, arriving back at Twickenham centre at around 12.30.
We meet in the car park of All Hallows’ Church – that’s the one with the big stone tower on the A316 near the Rugby Ground Roundabout. The car park entrance is at the end of Erncroft Way. If you’re using GPS, the postcode TW1 1DA should get you there.
What To Expect
When you arrive for your first Saturday ride with us, you will be greeted by the two experienced ride leaders who will take you out in the new rider intro group. They will check that you are properly equipped for the ride (see FAQs) and will give you a briefing on the route and the way TCC rides in groups.
On club rides, we ride in groups of no more than eight riders and the most common styles of riding are ‘through and off’ (also known as a chaingang or a double pace line) or, if in smaller groups, ‘bit and bit’ (also known as a pace line). These styles of riding enable us to cover more ground for less effort and also to keep us safe on the road. Don’t worry if this is new to you, the ride leaders will look after you and you will find some useful information and tips in the FAQs.
Once you have done a few intro rides (usually three) you are welcome to move to a group that best fulfils your training needs and pay club membership of £43.00 per calendar year. This entitles you to join the Tuesday training rides, which tend to be faster, coached turbo training sessions in Winter, and the traditional TCC longer rides like the Bluebell ride in Spring and Brighton (or similar) on Bank Holiday Mondays.
