Now that Neil Bradford's points have finally been linked to the Club, and the great haul of 38 points for our Ladies Squad last Sunday, it has pushed our position up to 54th Nationally, & 13th Regionally.
Note:- the points classification for each year runs from 1st December 2007 to 30th November 2008, so let's get racing & see if we can push ourselves into the TOP 50!
Andy Betts put in a fighting performance, despite not feeling 100%, but still managed a respectable 7th place in this closely contested 56 mile race. Andy was prominent throughout, and instigated an attack right from the start which lasted until just short of half-way though the race. He just missed the decisive breakaway, but battled hard in an unsuccessful attempt to bring it all back together on this tough course (6 riders were off the back within the first 5 miles!). Victory was taken by John Heaton-Armstrong riding for the Fit-For team, with the Sigma Sport's Steve Gower finishing 2nd.
Rob Drinkwater had our best result at this meeting, winning his heat and then finishing second by a knats whisker in the Sprint competition. Both Gavin Mitchell & Rob finished in the bunch in the first stage of the Bordeaux-Paris race where the first eight went into the main event later in the programme. The remainder (Gavin, Rob, & David Jack) went on for the final four laps of the 20k race where Rob was best placed TCC rider finishing 6th.
Well Done to Mike Fletcher for picking up a Silver standard finish by completing 81km course in 3:50:30, thereby finishing 2nd in his category. The route encompassed 1600m of climbing and took riders up eight major climbs: Ranmore Hill, Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, Winterfold Hill (an awesome 21% climb!), St Martha’s Hill, Coombe Bottom Hill, Dunley Hill and finishing with the zigZag at Box Hill.
