Dave Justin Peck

1957-2011 (Click here for details of the 2012 memorial ride for Dave)

Twickenham Cycling Club are deeply saddened that our dear friend and cherished Club Chairman Dave Peck passed away as a result of injuries suffered from a fall whilst on a ride with clubmates from London-to-Paris. This event has caused great shock and distress to all our members and Dave's many friends in the wider cycling and skating communities and it will have a lasting impact on everyone who knew Dave as a friend, clubmate and colleague.

Dave had been a member of TCC for many years and in 2008 became Club Chairman, he wasn't particularly keen at first thinking that he wouldn't be very good at the job but happily we persuaded him to take it on and he grew into the idea and was a great Chairman. He provided encouragement and support for all members, new and old, expert and not so experienced, racing and sporting, and knew everyone in the Club by name. Dave was always thinking of new ideas for the Club to grow and nurture its members and his leadership will be sorely missed.

There have been many tributes to Dave written in the Books of Condolence presented to his family and Sol and many posts on Facebook. The Facebook tributes are collected here.

One of the most poignant tributes is a poem written by Michael Keohane ...

Angels never come to earth,
At least that’s what you hear
So let me tell you of the ones
I met in recent years

In fact I've known him for some time,
But did not realise
To what extent his kindness went;
It quite escaped my eyes

If anyone’s in trouble
Or needs a helping hand
“Call on Dave” that’s what we did
We knew he'd understand

As for organising things
For pleasure or for fun
The outings and the trips he planned
Gave joy to everyone

So when they tell you angels never come to earth
Do not believe their lies
You need not look so very far
The truth’s before your eyes...

Tributes: Family flowers only for the funeral but donations to the Dave Peck Memorial Fund will be accepted as follows:
