Announcing: The TCC Road Race League
Hello everyone!
So the response to the last news regarding road racing for 2016 was spectacular. It’s amazing to see so many either interested in giving racing a go for the first time, or wanting to build on previous racing experience. As I mentioned, the plan was to put together some sort of ‘team’ for 2nd & 3rd cat racers, and provide all the support necessary for those just starting out to make those first steps as easily as possible.
Before we’ve even started, it seems that it’s been a victim of its own success. There has been such an interest in the ‘team’, from so many that it’d be impossible to put any sort f meaningful structure into any sort of formal team. There are also more than a few strong riders currently sitting in 4th cat, or not even having raced yet that I have strong suspicions will make it up to 3rd or 2nd this season that I figured we needed a better system to achieve the same goals.
So, without further ado, I’d like to announce 2016 as the inaugural year for the TCC Road Racing League!
The League is an internal competition, and is designed to reward both personal achievement and teamwork within road racing.
Racing is a team sport – no-one wins a race without a team to set them up for a break, to block a chasing bunch, to lead them out for a sprint or to simply offer a gel when you’re feeling a bit empty. The TCC RRL will reward those that go out and work together, as a team, with blue jerseys on their backs.
It’s open to every member of the club, and there will be a suitably prestigious award for the overall victor at the end of year prizegiving.
The way it works is straight forward:
Every member of TCC competing on a British Cycling race will receive the same number of RRL points as the highest paced TCC rider scores BC points. Everyone scores the same number of points, whether you’re the nominated rider or you’re making a nuisance of yourself, blocking a chase.
It’ll all be monitored & managed via an online spreadsheet, so you can all see who’s raced in what, who’s finished where, and how the points have been calculated.
All the information that you’ll need is available from the menu at the top – hover over Resources, and press ‘Road Racing League‘.
There’s a link to the overall standings so far this season, after the first few Imperial Winter Series races.
Any questions of course fire away, but otherwise just get organised and get out there and race! You can submit your own results, or hope/ask that someone does it for you.
Here’s to a successful 2016!
