Imperial Winter Series race 6 – 4th Cat
4th Cat race Saturday
The three veteran musketeers (Daniel, Rufus, and me, Stuart ) were out on the grey tarmac of Hillingdon again last Saturday.
The race was faster on average than previous weeks, but we all seemed to cope well. Daniel and Rufus spending a good proportion of the race mid pack or at the front. At one point for a short while Daniel found himself as race leader pushing the wind for the peleton. I don’t think that was a pre race objective!
Towards the end Rufus was running in the top 10 or so but on the 2nd to last lap, coming into ‘Bryan’s Bends’ the chap in front lost his rear wheel and had a moment which put Rufus off the circuit onto the grass for a bit of verge crawling..and of course lost about 20 places or more..but he fought back hard to finish mid 20s.
Daniel G again put in an improved performance finishing mid 40’s of the 57 riders.
I was feeling strong at the end and in the last lap gapped the group with 3 others. However a piece of wreckless riding by the eventual winner put me on the grass, on the penultimate bend. I stayed upright, but was then swamped by the main group finishing 22nd. So no points for the gang. Try again next week. All for one and one for all.!
