Results & Photos from Sunday’s Round 4 Central League CX
We had another great days racing at Sundays Central League Cyclocross event in Oxfordshire. Although a tough course Zappi’s did a great job as host club, creating a great atmosphere with cheerful, non-partisan supporters and blaring music as you cycled, ran or fell into the mud.
Nevermind the overall race lead Duncan, Rich Collins and Mike Miach were battling it out for the top TCC and friends place. I think Rich was ahead when they lapped me on about lap 4 but Duncan persevered in a close race to take line honours from Richard with Mike in hot pursuit. All 3 of them placing in the top 25 (in a 110 + field of starters). Not far behind them was Stephen Campbell putting in a great effort in his first cx race – one to watch I’m sure and TCC newcomer Dan Seddon. Also in her first race was Penny who did well to finish seeing as after our warm up lap she was heard to declare “I’m only going to do 1 lap and stop” This may have been precipitated by seeing Duncan return covered in mud following his face plant – nose and lip bleeding (but no trashed bike for a change) during the warm up lap. TCC were also represented in the Novice race with Claire Miach braving the hilly, muddy course.

This weekend is a double header with Round 5 of the Central League in Brackley at midday and Herne Hill’s Muddy Hell on Sat night. For those wanting to see what it’s all about and join the cyclocross gang, check out the video at the link below and come cheer for us on Sat night – there are 4 TCC’ers that I know of racing in the novice, women and vet categories from 6ish at Herne Hill velodrome, with fancy dress, bands and Steve Aslin running the evening bar.

And finally if you’re still reading this, you’re either bored at work or have an interest in cross. TCC are the promoting club for Round 9 of the Central League CX series. The event will be at Hillingdon (U10’s, U12’s, Novice, Senior and Vets races – bring your kids) on Sunday December 18th and we’re in charge of the course design, sign on, making cups of tea and providing cake etc. It’s clearly a busy time for people just a week out from Xmas however if anyone can give Mac a hand please let me of Mac know over the next month or so. Mac will need a couple of people to help set up/drive the ride on lawn mower in the afternoon of Sat 17th as well as people to run the event on Sunday 18th – all welcome.
Goodluck to those racing at Ottershaw on Sun and Sol in the St Crispin Days Night time 100mile ride which she’s doing on a tandem!
Just a few snaps of the mudfest last Sunday at Culham near Oxford
